Nintendo Holiday Training Video from 1993 Shows Rare Certificate of Achievement

Many things happened during 1993 for Nintendo including the release of the live-action Super Mario Bros. movie on May 28 and the launch of a top-loading NES console five months later. As the holidays drew near, the company released a training video that gave a glimpse of their rarely seen certificate of achievement.

Some of the notable Nintendo game releases in 1993 include The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (Game Boy), Star Fox (Super Nintendo Entertainment System), Kirby’s Adventure (NES), and Super Mario All-Stars, the latter of which contained the first version of the previously Japan-exclusive Super Mario Bros. 2 as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. We also can’t forget that Nintendo took part in the United States congressional hearings on video games, where Mortal Kombat and Night Trap were brought up.

Rare Look at the NASA Tire Assault Vehicle (TAV) Used to Pop Space Shuttle Tires

You’ve seen a Bugatti Chiron race a space shuttle, but did you know the CR-990 NASA Tire Assault Vehicle (TAV) is what engineers used to test its tires? It’s based on a remote-controlled 1:16 scale Tamiya Tiger II tank, which included custom-built sides, hull roof, side skirts, and front armor.

The tank turret was replaced with a small camera situated next to a DeWalt drill motor equipped with a 3/8-inch bit, both of which were connected to a Black and Decker battery. A video signal was then transmitted to a portable black-and-white TV. When all was said and done, the entire rig cost NASA less than $3,000 to build.

Extremely Rare Porsche 935 in Interscope Racing Livery Reaches $1.3-Million at Auction

The world’s only Porsche 917 Le Mans slot car raceway might be a fun novelty item, but this extremely rare Porsche 935 in Interscope Racing livery is something you can actually drive. This is the 49th of just 77 examples built and has 90-miles on the odometer since being acquired from the factory back in April 2019.

Based on the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, its exterior is made from a steel and aluminum composite shell wrapped in carbon-fiber-composite body panels with flared fenders as well as a longtail rear profile inspired by the original “Moby Dick” race car. Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.8L Type MA173 flat-six engine making 700 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, mated to a rigid-mounted seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. In the cabin, there is a single carbon fiber Recaro racing seat, a Schroth six-point harness, roll cage, and a titanium shifter with a laminated wood knob. Still interested? You can bid on it here.

Extremely Rare Boschert B300 Gullwing Heads to Auction, Based on Mercedes 300CE

There’s the Mercedes-Benz Unimog U1300L camper, and then this extremely rare Boschert B300 Gullwing. Only a handful of these examples are known to exist, based on the Mercedes 300CE, which was modified with the front end from an R129-generation SL.

This required heavy modifications to the vehicle’s structure, including bringing the C-pillar forward by around 25 centimeters and the sills strengthened to accept wild 1.66-meter-wide gullwing doors that provided access to the rear seats. The front seats were sourced from the R129 SL, while the 3.2L inline-six engine was fitted with twin turbochargers, resulting in a power output of 283 horsepower. It’s headed to an RM Sotheby’s auction in November and expected to fetch $300,000+ USD.
