All-Electric Rimac Nevera Hits 171.34MPH in Reverse, Sets New Guinness World Record

We know the Bugatti Bolide is fast, but can it beat the Rimac Nevera going in reverse? Most likely not, as the all-electric Rimac Nevera Time Attack Edition managed to hit 171.34mph going in reverse, setting a new Guinness World Record.

What made this run possible is because the 1,914 hp Nevera’s drivetrain has no gears, just four individual motors either go backwards or forwards, offering relentless acceleration right the way from standstill. This same powertrain can help the Nevera achieve a 0-100mph run in just 3.21 seconds hit 200mph in just under 11 seconds.

It occurred to us during development that Nevera would probably be the world’s fastest car in reverse, but we kind of laughed it off. The aerodynamics, cooling and stability hadn’t been engineered for travelling backwards at speed, after all. But then, we started to talk about how fun it would be to give it a shot. Valve Steam Deck OLED Hits Stores on November 16, Here’s a Hands-On Review

The Valve Steam Deck OLED is officially hitting stores on November 16. Available in in 512GB ($549) and 1TB ($649) variants, this handheld gaming PC now features a 7.4″ OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, a 6nm APU, 6400 MT/s memory, Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, as well as a 50Whr battery for up to 12-hours of continuous use on a single charge.

Even with a larger fan and updated thermals to help the Steam Deck OLED run cooler, it only weighs in at 30g, or 5% lighter than the LCD model, due to the screen. That’s not all, the 1TB models (including Limited Edition) come bundled with an exclusive case with a removable liner, while all of the rear case screws are now Torx type, which makes disassembly / reassembly a breeze without impacting structural integrity.

Princeton University’s Big Bird Electric Boat Hits 114.20MPH, Becomes World’s Fastest

Princeton University’s Big Bird electric boat hit an average speed of 114.20mph during its latest attempt, become the world’s fastest. The boat was originally designed to house a 700cc or 1100cc outboard motor, but instead comes equipped with a three-phase AC permanent magnet motor, powered by a 400-volt battery pack.

The 400-volt battery pack has an energy capacity of 24 kWh and helps the 975-pound electric boat generate in excess of 200 horsepower. Big Bird was piloted by John Peeters, a 60-time world and national record-holder hydroplane driver, on Lake Townsend near Greensboro, North Carolina.

Toyota Tacoma X-Runner Truck Concept Hits SEMA with Twin-Turbocharged V6

Aside from the AE86 Hydrogen (H2), the Toyota Tacoma X-Runner truck concept also debuted at SEMA 2023. Power comes from a Tundra-sourced, twin-turbocharged i-FORCE 3.4L V6 engine generating 421 horsepower with 479 lb-ft of torque, mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with a 4.30:1 final drive as well as an electronic locking differential.

Toyota engineers had to widen the overall track by over 3-inches to handle the chassis and engine modifications, which includes custom-valved, 2.5-inch Bilstein aluminum bodied shocks with remote reservoirs at each corner. Even though there are no plans to produce the Tacoma X-Runner, the engine modification package will be offered next year beginning with new Tundra models as part of a TRD Performance Package upgrade.

There is a Tacoma for everyone, with eight grades in the 2024 Tacoma lineup. This new X-Runner concept really shows that TRD is about performance, about going fast… It shows the range of the platform and what we could do if we took the Tacoma beyond off-road and everyday capabilities, slammed it, and gave it a little street cred,” said Mike Tripp, group vice president, Toyota Marketing.
