Inventor James Bruton Builds a Working Mobius Strip Tank with a Twistable Tread System

James Bruton Mobius Strip Tank
Inventor James Bruton built a working Mobius strip tank for his latest project, and for those unfamiliar with the term, it basically refers to a one-sided surface with no boundaries that looks like an infinite loop. In tank form, this meant creating a twistable tread system with each link being able to rotate 18°, and despite how it looks, the system functions like any other.

After some planning, Bruton settled on 3D printing each piece separately, thus if a replacement is needed, it can be easily done without having to reprint the entire thing. Other parts used include an Arduino Mega development board, a pair of 24V gear motors to drive each tread independently, BTS7960 DC motor drivers, and an RC radio receiver.

Inventor Builds a Kinetic PC Case That Doubles as a Work of Art

Ideal Idea Kinetic PC Case Sculpture
A wooden Xbox may sound weird, but this kinetic PC case by Robert of Ideal Idea Creations actually doubles as a work of art. Countless hours of work went into this creation, as the front panel has motorized mechanical parts on the front that can be swapped out.

To make things easy to swap, Robert had to first modify an existing PC case with laser-cut plywood, while a is used for the mechanisms inside the kinetic front panels. The effects are currently limited since they are controlled by a stepper motor powered by an Arduino Uno board. If a custom script was programmed to run on a PC, the rotation parameters can be adjusted on the fly for even more eye candy. On a related note, did you know that Yaacov Agam from Rishon LeZion, Israel is considered the pioneer of kinetic art?

Alienware Builds 16-Foot-Long Mechanical Keyboard, Uses it to Play DOTA 2

Alienware Builds 16-Foot-Long Mechanical Keyboard, Uses it to Play DOTA 2

Alienware 16-Foot Mechanical Keyboard DOTA 2
Alienware built a 16-foot-long mechanical keyboard and then proceeded to ask Team Liquid esports team to use it against real opponents in DOTA 2. To accomplish this, Alienware took the exact 3D-scanned proportions of an AW420K keyboard as well as their AW720M mouse and then multiplied them by a factor of 14.

What they ended up with was the world’s largest functional mechanical keyboard, based on the AW420K tenkeyless mechanical keyboard. Unlike its real-life counterpart, which uses Cherry MX switches, this one uses PVC pipe shaft-based custom linear-like mechanical actuation for each switch. These pipes interfaces via an internal rubber band mechanism with a normal-sized mechanical switch connected to the keyboard. The 84 switches are all 3D printed, while the space bar along weighs in at nearly 20 pounds. Did we mention that the giant Alienware AW720M mouse is also functional?

Man Builds Road Legal Bumper Car Modeled After 1953 Lusse Auto Skooter

Man Builds Road Legal Bumper Car Modeled After 1953 Lusse Auto Skooter

Road Legal Bumper Car 1953 Lusse Auto Skooter
Street legal flying cars are nothing new, but this road legal bumper car modeled after a 1953 Lusse Auto Skooter. Dan Hryhorcoff wanted a project to work on during the pandemic, so this idea popped into his head after remembering a vehicle he saw at an amusement park in Elysburg, Pennsylvania called Knoebels.

Power comes from a Chevrolet Aveo-sourced 1.6L 4-cylinder engine making 108 hp and 105 lb-ft of torque, while the front of the bumper car is a single motorcycle wheel. This means this street legal bumper can can turn very sharply. It measures 13 feet long, 7 feet wide, and 5.5 feet tall, making it twice the size of a standard bumper car that you see in amusement parks, but the pole out back is just for aesthetics.

Road Legal Bumper Car 1953 Lusse Auto Skooter

I decided to copy one of those. I measured, and took photos, and made templates, and whatever I needed to, to copy the car as well as I can. Any project I’ve ever chose was a project that I knew I can get through it, but I had something new to learn in the process. There were always some unknowns. I’d rather big projects, rather than a dozen little ones,” said Hryhorcoff.

Inventor Colin Furze Builds Oven-Equipped Motorbike That Can Bake a Pizza While Riding

Colin Furze Oven Bike Bake Pizza
Inventor Colin Furze is no stranger to weird contraptions, and his latest creation is most certainly no exception. He came up with an oven-equipped motorbike that can bake a pizza while riding, which required stretching its chassis by 2 meters (6.6 feet).

There are a few drawbacks such as the oven being so heavy it comprises the motorbike’s maneuverability and the lack of a proper prep table, which makes rolling the dough a difficult task. However, the bike is still able to travel at 30 mph while the gas-powered oven is cooking up a fresh pizza.

The oven is gas-powered so you have to leave it for 10 minutes to heat up, but once you put the pizza inside it only takes a few minutes to cook. I’ve tried out the delivery service on neighbors and friends and they love it,” said Furze.

FBR’s Brick-Laying Hadrian X Robot Successfully Builds Curved Wall

FBR’s Brick-Laying Hadrian X Robot Successfully Builds Curved Wall

FBR Hadrian X Robot Build Wall Bricks
Australia-based FBR’s Hadrian X robot has been designed to lay up to 500 bricks per hour, and it recently built a curved wall for the first time. It’s capable of completing both the external and internal walls of a standard double brick house in a single day.

A 32 meter (105 foot) telescopic boom arm provides further reach than its predecessor, enabling construction of walls three stories high from the roadside as well as the ability to lay blocks within 50mm of existing walls. FBR just announced a strategic agreement with U.K. based shareholder M & G Investment Management to fund the manufacture and commercial deployment of three additional next-generation Hadrian X robots for use in the United States.
