A canceled Konami Battle Choice prototype game from 1988 for the NES just sold for $15,850 USD on Yahoo Auctions Japan. It’s reportedly a fantasy-style chess / beat ‘em up title that was based on Shogi, a Japanese strategy board game for two players.
This means Battle Choice most likely would have been the same as in the original Shogi, where two players take turns and when the pieces come into contact with each other, action-battles begin. For those interested in some of the game’s music tracks, they can be found in the album “Konami Famicom Chronicle Vol.3 ROM Cassette”, which was released back in August 2015. Unfortunately (or fortunately), we’ll probably never see a ROM dump of this game as it reportedly was purchased by a Japanese collector.
