Researchers from Wuhan University in China debut InvisDefense, a real-life invisibility cloak. This creation doesn’t make use of other worldly materials, just a bespoke lenticular grid formed from a row of small convex cylindrical lenses that allow light to be refracted regularly, paired with a normal-looking coat.
It can be classified as a metamaterial since InvisDefense is used to vary perception of the human eye by distorting its visual field, resulting in a vanishing act of sorts. The researchers claim that this invisibility cloak can provide all-weather stealth defense, but in the daytime, particular camouflage patterns can disturb the visual neural network effectively to make it blind. Put simply, it’s a low-cost coat that can be used during the day or night.

In the nighttime, however, InvisDefense embeds temperature control materials, thus realizing stealth under thermal infrared imaging through special color blocks. As a brand-new defense product, the InvisDefense’s invisibility cloak can be invisible under machine vision and therefore be used to protect personal privacy and security,” said the researchers.
