Believe it or not, these incredible shots of Earth from space were captured by a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra rigged to a carbon fiber exoskeleton and a core flight computer. The smartphone then made its way to the edge of space aboard a hydrogen-filled stratospheric weather balloon.
The shots you see here were taken at around 120,000 feet above Earth and during the journey, it managed to capture 150 high-resolution images of the western United States. For comparison purposes, the U-2 spy plane, crated from aluminum and limited to subsonic flight, can cruise for many hours above 70,000 feet with a payload weighing up to 3,000 pounds.

Why bother with wraps, when the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA has a color-changing exterior? South African artist Esther Mahlangu attached 1,349 strips of laser-cut film that can be electronically animated, embodying the latest development in color-changing technology for vehicle surfaces in cooperation with E-ink.
Thanks to the several million microcapsules in each E Ink film, the structure and arrangement of the color particles they contain can be changed by applying an electric voltage on demand. This means the typical colors and patterns of Mahlangu’s art can be generated in constantly changing compositions.

Now, being able to realise this idea, and work with Esther Mahlangu, is absolutely surreal. The 88-year-old artist’s signature colors and geometric patterns are perfect for bringing the innovative Flow technology to life in the BMW i5. The versatility of the electrophoretic colour changes makes the fully-electric sedan a dynamic work of art. “It is fascinating to me to see how modern technology can expand my art and make it accessible to a completely new audience,” said Esther Mahlangu, South African artist.

Photo credit: King_hack9 Remember Microsoft’s Kinect camera for the Xbox 360? Well, it can still be found on CT machines in hospitals, or more specifically the Siemens Xcite. According to one imaging specialist, this 3D camera is relatively accurate for most patient habitus.
The CT machine basically uses the Kinect to landmark for topograms, while it still has a laser for centering if needed like any other machine. However, the Kinect camera can actually set up a scan region depending on the protocol you select. Best of all, they are still relatively cheap online, priced between $7.99 – $99+ depending on the condition.

IN THE BOX: Xbox Series X console, one Xbox Wireless Controller, an ultra high-speed HDMI cable, power cable, and 2 AA batteries.
It can have difficulty setting this up, like when a patient has blankets on, or if the patient is too large. For most normal sized patients it will actually set up the region pretty darn closely, and then you can move the patient in to the scanner per the Kinect info. You can still adjust it on an iPad attached to the machine, or you can manually set your centering if you want to as well,” said Andgarth.

Why bother with the BOOX Palma, when you could get Hefei LCFC’s Gemini. This Lenovo subsidiary debuted a dual E-ink tablet that can double as a mini laptop of sorts.
It features two 7.8″ E-ink screens that can be used either as a dual-screen ebook reader or as a laptop with a virtual keyboard, complete with stylus support. A 360-degree hinge connects the two screens, enabling users to flip them and use the device like a traditional book. The stylus it comes with appears to have a built-in microphone that can be clipped onto a shirt. Other features include at least one USB-C port, a rear camera, and stereo speakers. There’s no word yet on pricing or availability.
LCFC operates an intelligent manufacturing strategy, harnessing automation, intelligent construction technologies, and digital tools to support production. Its manufacturing sites are capable of processing 5,000 orders a day—80% of which are multi-configuration orders. With more than 2,000 components available, LCFC has the potential to deliver tens of thousands of unique customizations,” according to Lenovo.

Engineer Arvind Sanjeev turned a normal Brother typewriter into a ChatGPT-powered machine, called Ghostwriter, that can basically reads what you type and have AI respond. How so? An Arduino board reads the queries and then sends them to ChatGPT via a Raspberry Pi.
The hardest part of this project, or at least from a technical perspective, was decoding the keys from the typewriter. This required Sanjeev to build a keyboard matrix consisting of eight scan and eight signal lines. He then had to press each key, read the signal-scan lines they triggered, and then properly map them before coding a driver that ran on an Arduino. A Raspberry Pi eventually became the interface that communicated with the OpenAI API.

The Ghostwriter is a poetic intervention that allows us to take a moment to breathe and reflect on this new creative relationship we are forming with machines. It tries to alleviate anxiousness around AI by inviting people to co-create with it in a safe space,” said Sanjeev.
